I often visit nanas during the weekends with my family and friends. We would all gather home-made dog cookies, cat nibbles and of course not forgetting fruits for the horses (YES!!! There are even horses there!!!). This sanctuary has come a long way....it started in Singapore with Raymund Wee homing more than 100 dogs and cats....However, due to the expiry of the land lease, he was forced to vacate the space and was left helpless with many lives in his hands. Through no short of a miracle, he was approached by a kind soul who has a land in Malaysia and is willing to give it up to continue homing these animals...There, NANAS was formed...
Visiting him in his sanctuary, you can see why he managed to maintain his youth. Waking up at 5am every morning, he takes a morning walk around the open field with hundred of dogs trailing his back...You can tell they all love him as they wagged their tails furiously when he calls their individual names. Not mistaking any single one of their names, you can tell the amount of effort an dedication that he has put into this place. I remembered when I first visited NANAS years ago, the whole place felt so serene. There were greenery everywhere with ponds for the dogs to jumped in and out to ease the summer heat. The little wooden hut that Raymunds stays in was very cosy with dogs runing every every where!!! One funny thing I learnt...never never stay at one spot for too long, the dogs pees on you!!!haha...
We would end the day with dinner. Our favourite spot would be a place that serves wonderful sambal seafood and butter crabs!!!! All for a fraction of what we would pay in Singapore....and it tastes so so goood!!!
I would like to share this wonderful experience with everyone. Now and then, I would organise trips to NANAS and would like to invite anyone who is interested to join me. The dates would be posted soon but the nearest visit would somewhere between late Feb and early Mar. We would probably set off late morning, stay in NANAS until about 5pm and head for dinner in Malaysia. Trust me, the food would be good and cheap and you wouldn't want to miss it!
There would be a flat fee for evey person , probably $40.00 of which any excess I would donate to NANAS on your behalf. So, the more people I get, the more donations we can make!
Do email me with your name and I would definitely keep you posted on the next NANAS trip!!
